MoSi2 Heating Element

At Furn-Tek, our focus is high-performance industrial heating — and that includes more than just silicon carbide. We also offer MoSi₂ (Molybdenum Disilicide) elements for extreme-temperature applications reaching up to 1800 °C in oxidizing atmospheres.

Maximum operating temperature:

1700–1800 °C

Atmosphere:

Best suited for oxidizing or neutral environments

Resistance profile:
  • Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) — resistance increases with temperature
  • Long service life in high-purity processes (glass, lab furnaces, etc.)
  • Self-forming protective silica layer resists oxidation
  • High power density — often 5–10 W/cm² and higher
Common types:
  • U Shape (M1700U, M1800U)
  • W Shape (M1700W)
  • Straight or L-Shape (custom lengths)
Ideal for:
  • High-temperature lab furnaces
  • Glass melting and processing
  • High-purity ceramics and sintering
  • Heat treatment under oxidizing conditions
Custom-Built MoSi₂ Elements
Just like our GLO-BARs, MoSi₂ elements can be manufactured to your exact specifications, including:
  • Diameter (typ. 3/6, 4/9, 6/12, 9/18 mm cold/hot ends)
  • Heated zone length and terminal leg length
  • Resistance values matched to system voltage
  • Mechanical configurations (U, W, L, custom)
